Ty Gibbs steals the win in the final laps of the Xfinity race at Las Vegas

Ty Gibbs

In Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Ty Gibbs had no the dominant car. But when it counted most, he was unstoppable.

With six laps to go in the race, Gibbs tried to take advantage of a push from Justin Allgaier to pass Noah Gragson and take the lead.

Gibbs proceeded to win his first race of the season over Gragson by leading the final six laps — the only laps he led all day.

After starting from the back due to unapproved modifications and getting into two early collisions with Ryan Sieg in the race, Gibbs’ day ended well.

On the third lap, Gibbs’ car collided with Sieg’s, sending the latter into the Turn 4 wall. On pit road, Sieg and Gibbs discussed the incident after the race was red-flagged due to weather on Lap 19.

After they finished talking, Fox Sports questioned Sieg if everything between them for the day had been settled. “I don’t think so. We’ll find out,” Sieg responded.

On Lap 30, Sieg tried to run Gibbs into the Turn 4 barriers shortly after the race resumed.

Sieg, on the other hand, spun himself out, catching Sheldon Creed and Brett Moffitt in the process. Sieg’s afternoon came to an end at that point.

Gibbs expressed regret for making early contact with Sieg in post-race comments to Fox Sports.

“It wasn’t my best decision and I’m sorry to their whole group,” said Gibbs. “Ryan’s family, they worked so hard, so I want to apologize to them.”

Gibbs thanked Allgaier for driving him into the lead on the final restart.

“That helped me out a lot,” said Gibbs. “I had a fun time racing with the JR (Motorsports) cars.

“Hopefully, we can keep it going and go out and win some more races.”

On his way to his third top-three finish of the season, Gragson clinched both stages and led 52 laps on Saturday.

However, after losing the race on the final restart, he showed some concerns.

“I just kind of got beaten at our own game there,” he told Fox Sports. “Restarts just, you know, came up short. It felt like he was rolling, but I guess that’s the box that we’re in.

“… We got warned earlier in the race for kind of doing something similar to that, but I don’t know. We just need to be better. Congrats to them. We’ll keep working hard. … We’ll come back stronger next weekend.”

Daniel Hemric, the series champion, came in third. Josh Berry came in fourth place. The top five standings were completed by Allgaier.
