Liam Lawson, a young racer for Red Bull, will move on to Japan’s Super Formula in 2023 after taking third place in the 2022 Formula 2 title.
Liam Lawson, a Red Bull rookie, will switch from F2 to Japan’s Super Formula in 2023.
Theo Pourchaire, who ended in 2nd place, and Felipe Drugovich, who won the championship, were separated by just 15 points as the 20-year-old finally completed the 2022 Formula 2 season in third and fourth, respectively.
Throughout the F1 weekends, Lawson participated in Free Practice 1 sessions for both Red Bull and AlphaTauri, finishing P5 on the timesheets in his excursion on Friday at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The New Zealander racer will now advance in his career by choosing to join Mugen in Super Formula.
Lawson advances to Super Formula
After driving a Team Mugen car at the Suzuka Circuit, Lawson currently posted pictures and videos of the experience on social media.
“This car around this track.. one of the best experiences I’ve had in a race car! Thank you @team_mugen.official,” Lawson wrote.
The 50th anniversary of Super Formula in 2023 will be celebrated with a nine-race schedule that kicks off on April 8 at Fuji Speedway and finishes on October 29 at Suzuka.
Red Bull juniors other than Lawson also participated in the series. In Super Formula competition in 2017, Pierre Gasly came very close to capturing the title.
Towards the close of the 2017 season, the Frenchman eventually had the chance to make his Formula One debut with the Toro Rosso squad.
