Mick Schumacher, a previous Haas Formula 1 racer, has formally departed the Ferrari Driver Academy.

After 4 years of collaboration, during which Schumacher won the Formula 2 championship in 2020 and was advanced to a racing seat in the F1 with Ferrari-affiliated Haas, the team and the German driver have finally decided to discontinue their collaboration.

After joining in 2019, Schumacher was anticipated to compete for a race seat with the works Ferrari team in the near future. However, after a disappointing season at Haas in ’22, Schumacher lost favor and was forced to leave Formula One altogether when Haas made the decision Nico Hulkenberg would be a better fit for ’23.

Throughout his career, Schumacher raced 43 races for Haas, earning two points in the 2022 season with finishes of eighth and sixth in Britain and Austria, respectively.

In the case that racers Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz were incapable of competing, he served as the Scuderia’s official reserve driver.

Schumacher will be forced to sit out at least one season of F1 competition because there are no open spots on the 2023 grid, however Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has indicated interest in having him join the squad as a reserve driver to assist George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.
