The two world champions for the 2021 season in Formula One will give interviews together on Friday, before of the Australian Grand Prix.
Prior to the 2022 Australian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen will face the media together.
From last season’s Abu Dhabi GP and the FIA investigation that followed, this will be the first time the two have chosen to take interviews from the public side by side.
As their dramatic title duel went down to the wire, the two drivers closed the 2021 season by routinely swapping FIA press conferences.
With fresher, faster tyres on the closing laps of the final race, Verstappen won the year as World Champion.
Since then, an FIA study has ruled that outgoing Race Director Michael Masi made a “human error” in Abu Dhabi, when he only withdrew a few lapped cars before bringing the Safety Car back into the pit lane without it having finished an additional lap as required by the rules.
“The results of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the FIA Formula 1 World Championship are valid, final, and cannot now be changed,” the FIA report said.
Hamilton and Verstappen to face the media together on Friday
In different interviews since then, Hamilton and Verstappen have been asked about the incidents in Abu Dhabi.
They’ve only met each other a few moments since then, and they’ve only swapped places once on the racetrack, with Hamilton overtaking Verstappen at the 2022 season opener in Bahrain when the Red Bull driver experienced a fuel system issue.
However, before of the Australian Grand Prix, Hamilton and Verstappen will face the media in Melbourne on Friday at 11:00 a.m. local time (02:00 a.m. BST).
Hamilton’s previous Mercedes colleague Valtteri Bottas, as well as Yuki Tsunoda and Lando Norris, will join them in the media conference room.
