Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams are said to have invested huge sums in a group attempting to purchase Chelsea Football Club, whose present owner, Roman Abramovich, has been punished by the UK government.
According to rumours, Lewis Hamilton has teamed up with Serena Williams to join a partnership trying to buy Chelsea Football Club.
According to Sky News, the seven-time World Champion and 23-time Grand Slam champion have each contributed up to £10 million as part of Sir Martin Broughton’s core team, which is attempting to purchase the London club.
“We can confirm that Lewis has joined the Sir Martin Broughton bid,” a spokesperson for Hamilton told the PA news agency.
Hamilton is diversifying his investments
If Broughton’s attempt to buy Chelsea is approved, it will be Hamilton’s 2nd major commercial investment in 2022, following his $200 million investment in supermarket delivery start-up Zapp in January.
Chelsea is now controlled by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who put the club up for sale on March 2nd, only days before the UK government placed a freeze on his assets due to his alleged ties to Vladimir Putin.
Chelsea needs a special government licence to continue to operate after its owner was sanctioned, thus Abramovich cannot profit economically from the sale of the club.
