The assumption that some courses are especially suitable for the Ducati MotoGP bike than others, according to Jack Miller, is now a thing of the past.
Due to the Desmosedici’s understeer issues in the past, the Ducati often underperformed at locations where a bike with flexibility was required.
And while Ducati keeps performing well on races where horsepower is a critical factor, it no longer struggles on tricky circuits.
Ducati has already won races in 2022 at previously unfavourable locations like Assen, Jerez, and the Circuit of the Americas, in addition to winning at Mugello, a favourable hunting ground.
Miller thinks the Ducati no longer needs to approach races with the idea that the upcoming circuit is not favourable to the bike because it is now regarded as one of the greatest all-around packages in MotoGP.
“I think the Ducati track thing is a thing of the past,” he said.
“Historically speaking, Mugello and Barcelona have been two of my dud tracks, not my best ones.
“Sachsenring has always been one of my favourite tracks, and Assen also used to be one of my favourite tracks.
“Sachsenring it was very similar; in the past we suffered a lot there, but it seems this year the tracks that you as a rider really get on with well, you can always put in that little bit extra.
“And I felt at Sachsenring [where I was third] I was able to do that.”
The Italian manufacturer Ducati is 74 points ahead of Yamaha in the MotoGP constructors’ rankings, holding a commanding lead.
The leading factory racer for Ducati, however, is third-placed Johann Zarco, who is 58 points behind Francesco Bagnaia, who is 66 points behind defending world champion Fabio Quartararo due to an erratic first half of the season.
Ducati is anticipated to announce its last choice on Jack Miller’s replacement at its factory team in the upcoming weeks. Miller is headed to KTM.
Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini have both agreed to contract extensions with Ducati, with the former receiving a move to the factory team and the latter receiving a works seat at Pramac.
While departing LCR Honda racer Alex Marquez will accompany Fabio Di Giannantonio at Gresini following year, both will be using equipment that is one year old, Zarco will stay at Pramac.
