Marc Marquez: Lorenzo was “nearly invincible” in his “lovely moment” in MotoGP

Three-time MotoGP world champion and former Honda teammate Jorge Lorenzo was “nearly invincible” when he was in his “sweet moment,” according to Marc Marquez.

Lorenzo was admitted into the MotoGP Hall of Fame in a ceremony held in Jerez on Saturday during the Spanish Grand Prix.

Lorenzo earned victories of 47 races in a premier-class professional life that lasted from 2008 to 2019, with the Spaniard clinching championship 3 times with Yamaha and leading the race for both Yamaha and Ducati.

Throughout their careers, Marquez and Lorenzo fought each other countless times, eventually being partners in 2019 before the latter chose to leave at the end of an injury-plagued last year.

Marquez stated that Lorenzo was “one of those exceptional individuals” on the grid ahead of his induction into the MotoGP hall of fame.

“I mean, you can be a great rider, and you can be a champion,” Marquez began.

“And he was one of those special guys out there with a strong personality. You can agree or disagree, but he had his personality and he was really strong there.

“Of course when he was in his sweet moment he was nearly unbeatable and was riding in an incredible way.

“So, I have a big respect for him because I learned many things fighting against Jorge.

“Of course, when he was my team-mate it was another atmosphere, another mentality.

“But, it’s impossible to make a ranking. I don’t like it because each rider has his period and each rider has his years.

“And when Lorenzo was riding well, he was riding very, very fast and very constant with a strong personality. That is what makes the difference.”

Valentino Rossi, Dani Pedrosa, and Casey Stoner, as well as former greats Mick Doohan, Kenny Roberts, and Giacomo Agostini, have all been inducted into the MotoGP hall of fame.

Lorenzo had his Porsche Supercup start at Imola last weekend as part of the Formula 1 support programme, finishing 30th, as he prepares to enter the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy full-time.

This year, Lorenzo will also contribute to Spanish television as a part-time MotoGP commentator.
