Toto Wolff has shared his personal thoughts on the announcement that General Motors will support Andretti Autosport’s attempt to enter the Formula 1 track.
Toto Wolff thinks the General Motors announcement gives Andretti’s Formula 1 entry bid “another aspect.”
The news that Andretti will form a partnership with General Motors was met with muted reaction from the motorsport, which concentrated on requiring any potential new team to be “credible.”
Throughout 2022, Formula 1 teams expressed a generally negative reaction to the introduction of new teams, with the majority warning that new competitors would have to strengthen the sport.
Mercedes Team Principal Wolff had recently said at the end of 2022 that a new team is important when considering a car manufacturer’s sponsorship in order to be successful .
Wolff: There’s no denying Cadillac’s pedigree
Wolff gave a softer assessment of Andretti’s renewed bid when asked about their expectations that the support of a significant manufacturer will be the last piece in the puzzle for Andretti’s feasibility.
The manager of the Mercedes team, though, refrained from expressing his support for the initiative.
Wolff told the reporters, including RacingNews365.com, “With Cadillac and GM… that’s a statement.”
“Them joining forces with Andretti is definitely a positive, it gives it another angle that may or may not be beneficial for Formula One.
“Nobody would ever question GM’s or Cadillac’s pedigree in motorsport, and as a global auto company.”
