Mike Krack, Aston Martin’s team manager, was conspicuously missing a paddock-wide gathering of senior officials for a pre-event dinner in Imola.
Mike Krack has stated why he was not there at a special meal held before the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, where all of the team leaders gathered for a friendly dinner.
Following the meal, photos of each team’s bosses appeared on social networks and were widely shared. Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren, was also in attendance, as was Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Formula One.
However, one of the executives was noticeably absent, with Aston Martin’s current Team Principal absent from the image.
Krack described what had occurred when questioned why Aston Martin was not represented at the meal during the team managers’ news briefings on Saturday.
“Of course, because I took the photo!” Krack made light of the situation in interviews with the media.
The real explanation was disclosed by Krack, who pointed to the mirror at the far back of the room, which plainly showed that a member of the restaurant staff had snapped the picture.
“Seriously, I was not present,” he confirmed.
“We had a little communication problem that prevented me from going, so that’s the reason.”
Krack is thrilled with the season’s first points
Krack complimented his squad for rebounding back from a disastrous weekend in Australia with a double points result at Imola on Sunday, praising their attitude to their Melbourne loss.
“Australia was obviously very hard for all the people, and the people that work really, really hard at the factory,” he said.
“So, before the race [at Imola], we had a briefing with all the team. We were saying we had similar conditions on Friday, and we did a very good job on Friday in my opinion – drivers and team – to bring the car higher up than it really was deserving of.
“We start in P13 and P15 and, maybe, if we do a job without mistakes and others might make some, then there is a chance to score.
“It was a very good reaction from all the team who were super ready, super prepared, back at Silverstone and at Mission Control.
“It was a great team effort and it was nice that we tried to make it happen like that, and then it does happen. It doesn’t work always!”
