Enea Bastianini believes that the Ducati GP21, along with his experience as a second-year MotoGP racer, means that ‘I can do everything with this bike.’
Enea Bastianini feels he’ll be more powerful than ever in the MotoGP season start in Qatar next month.
Bastianini was fastest at Sepang after setting a new unofficial lap record, despite finishing 19th in the official Mandalika pre-season test.
Bastianini’s speed was especially amazing given that the Malaysian test was his first on the GP21 bike; he previously raced the GP19 in 2021.
Bastianini will participate on the same bike that Ducati managed to win 7 races with last season, the most of any brand (Yamaha came in second with one less).
Albeit a lower-than-expected result on the last day of the Mandalika MotoGP test on Sunday, Bastianini thought he had taken another step forward, despite admitting he had never attempted a time attack.
“In the end the test is done and now we are ready to race. We have made a really good test here in Mandalika and we have made another step forward,” said the 2020 Moto2 champion.
“It was better in Sepang as we could try to push more in every session, lap-by-lap and my position today is not so great.
“But we didn’t try to put a time attack. We just worked on the race pace. At the end we are very happy and ready for Qatar.”
Bastianini was questioned where he sees the most development has been made in comparison to his rookie season after his fifth day of testing in nine days.
The 24-year-old claimed that the GP21 bike is’more competitive,’ while also claiming that he has made a lot of progress.
Bastianini added: “Now I’m more competitive and also I have a more competitive bike. My feeling is better in every session.
“I can do everything with this bike, I can be fast, also I can work better with the team because when you are a rookie it’s difficult to work with the electronics, the power and now I’m more competitive. We will see what happens during the first race.”
