Red Bull gained ground on their opponents in the pit lane as well as on the racetrack at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Red Bull had a successful week in Jeddah, both on the racetrack and in the pit lane, as the Milton Keynes-based team succeeded in beating their opponents’ pit-stop times in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
While Ferrari held the advantage in this area during the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen both had faster stops than Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz at the second race of the season.
Just Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris’ McLarens were capable of obtaining tyres faster than Perez, with the Mexican’s stop clocking in at 2.53 seconds.
With a time of 2.60 seconds, Verstappen was sixth fastest, while Alex Albon’s Williams was trapped between the two Red Bulls with a 2.55 second stop.
The Ferraris, on the other hand, were only a few hundredths of a second slower. The pit-stop times for Leclerc and Sainz were 2.62 and 2.70 seconds, respectively.
Mercedes behind in the midfield
Between Sainz’s time and George Russell’s next closest pit-stop, there is a little gap.
The British driver came to a stop in 3.07 seconds, much ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton’s mark of 3.94 seconds. The Silver Arrows are now in the middle of the pack, indicating that there is still work to be done in the pits.
However, they were not the first team having trouble with pit stops. Aston Martin and AlphaTauri are two more manufacturers on the bottom end of the timing scale.
Due to a five-second punishment and the car slipping off the jack, Zhou’s time was 15.57 seconds.
