Quartararo’s boss is in negotiations with competing MotoGP teams for 2023

Eric Mahe, the supervisor of current MotoGP championship Fabio Quartararo, has stated that he is in negotiations with other companies about his future.

Quartararo’s deal with Yamaha expires at the end of this season, despite signing a new contract with the Japanese manufacturer to participate its factory team in 2021, following MotoGP great Valentino Rossi.

The Frenchman earned the 2021 championship, breaking a six-year streak for Yamaha that began with Jorge Lorenzo in 2015, with Yamaha revealing on several occasions since then that re-signing Quartararo is their top goal.

However, Quartararo has expressed dissatisfaction with the 2022 Yamaha’s lack of improvement, notably in terms of horsepower. He also revealed earlier this year that his career beyond 2022 was up in the air as a result.

While rumours of numerous movements have persisted, including connections to Honda, Quartararo has been tight-lipped regarding his future plans.

His management Mahe refused to respond on who has indicated potential in Quartararo in an interview with motogp.com, but did reveal that conversations are taking place.

“We are checking all parameters,” he said. “We just have to know where Fabio can achieve the best results possible at this stage and then we are a bit lucky because years ago a decision like this was taken one year in advance.

“And at this stage there is no rush, so it’s a good situation. Only two riders are signed for next year, and I can imagine there is no rush to Yamaha too. So, we are investigating everything and then we will see what happens.

“We are in talks. It’s not a question of offers, we are trying to what could be the best for Fabio.

“For sure, we have a great respect to Yamaha, but due to certain reasons I cannot say we have to think about.”

Franco Morbidelli, Quartararo’s colleague, has an agreement with Yamaha that runs until the conclusion of 2023, and Ducati recently signed Francesco Bagnaia to a new two-year contract that will begin next season.

Quartararo indicated on Thursday, before this weekend’s Americas Grand Prix in Texas, that he is not considering a timetable for making his 2023 choice.

After three races, the Frenchman is now in fifth place, with only one podium finish.
