In FP2 at Zandvoort, Charles Leclerc set the fastest times, with Red Bull trailing behind with both cars.
The top 4 cars at Zandvoort finished the second Formula 1 practise session for the Dutch Grand Prix within 0.103 seconds of Charles Leclerc.
Owing to the lengthy Formula 2 qualifying session, the beginning of Free Practice 2 (FP2) was temporarily postponed. Max Verstappen was one of those to leave early after missing most of FP1 owing to a gearbox problem.
Verstappen, the defending champion, set the early pace with a 1m:13.465s on Soft tyres to take the lead before the teams began their qualifying simulation runs.
Leclerc was the last driver to attempt a lap in 1m:12.349s, and Carlos Sainz Jr. was leading the rankings.
The Monegasque finished in a time of 1m:12.345s, edging off Sainz by 0.004s to give Ferrari a one-two finish. Verstappen leads the rankings by 98 points.
0.072 seconds and 0.103 seconds behind the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris were third and fourth, respectively.
Red Bull struggle at Zandvoort
Verstappen finished the practise in seventh place, trailing only George Russell, Lance Stroll, and Fernando Alonso, but she was 0.697s off of Leclerc’s time record.
Esteban Ocon and Daniel Ricciardo, who completed the top 10, were easily in front of the Red Bull, which was predicted to be less dominant than it was at Spa last weekend, despite the fact that it laboured around in their hands.
Oscar Piastri, who will succeed Daniel Ricciardo in 2023, was announced by the FIA’s CRB just prior to the session. Ricciardo ended the session early due to an oil leak in a radiator.
In P12 after a lacklustre FP1, Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez was even further off the speed. He was 1.148 seconds slower than P1.
With 12 minutes remained in the race, 11th-place finisher Yuki Tsuonda raised the red flag after beaching the AlphaTauri in the gravel.
Four minutes remained before the session restarted.
Difficulties of Gasly
While Stroll was in a good P6 position for Aston Martin, teammate Sebastian Vettel was down in P14 and about 0.8 seconds slower than Mick Schumacher’s Haas, with Zhou Guanyu of Alfa Romeo slipping in just behind.
A malfunction beneath his AlphaTauri seat caused Pierre Gasly to miss the first half of the session. He finished 16th, ahead of Alex Albon for Williams.
The last racer to pass Leclerc by less than two seconds was Kevin Magnussen, who was behind Valtteri Bottas in 18th place.
20th and last, Nicholas Latifi was 2.452 seconds behind the pace.
