Tokyo Revengers is a popular anime series that follows the story of Takemichi Hanagaki, a freelancer who has hit rock bottom in life. He learns that his only girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, was killed by the ruthless Tokyo Manji Gang. One day, while standing on the station platform, he is pushed onto the tracks by a group of people and believes he is about to die. However, when he opens his eyes, he finds himself transported back 12 years in time. Now living in the best days of his life, Takemichi decides to take revenge on his life by saving his girlfriend and changing the course of events that led to her death.
The second season of Tokyo Revengers, the Christmas Showdown Arc, has recently concluded, and fans have been left with mixed reactions. While some fans were satisfied with how the story unfolded, many were disappointed by several aspects of the series. Disney+ acquired exclusive rights to stream the second season, but their lack of visibility and scarce marketing contributed to a drop in viewership. Additionally, the animation in season 2 was lackluster, with lazy animation in some areas and decent choreography at best. While the art was visually pleasing on a few occasions, most scenes were still shots of characters conversing, which detracted from the overall viewing experience.
Despite these criticisms, fans of Tokyo Revengers are hopeful for future seasons. The upcoming story arcs are intriguing, and a boost in the overall quality from the studio would undoubtedly improve the viewership. Ultimately, no anime series is perfect, but addressing these criticisms would certainly help Tokyo Revengers reach its full potential.
