Pokemon TCG Online shutting down, players migrate to TCG Live

The beloved Pokemon Trading Card Game Online is about to come to an end as its official shutdown date has been announced. Pokemon fans around the world are preparing to say goodbye to an old classic as it has been revealed that the Pokemon Trading Card Game Online will officially shut down on June 5. This original digital trading card game for the franchise was first launched back in 2011 and was a huge hit for a time, but now the game is being replaced in favor of Pokemon TCG Live.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Online has been the go-to game for players who want to enjoy the Pokemon TCG on their mobile devices. The game was a major part of the franchise’s success and the introduction of Pokemon TCG to the digital gaming world. Over the years, the game has amassed a large player base and a loyal fan following. However, with the advent of Pokemon TCG Live, the digital trading card game world of Pokemon is about to receive a major overhaul.

Pokemon TCG Live is set to act as a facelift to the original Pokemon Trading Card Game Online, updating certain antiquated design features and making the game feel much more comfortable on mobile devices. Since its global beta launch in November 2022, the game has been in the works and is expected to be a major improvement over its predecessor. With the game creeping closer to a full release, Pokemon Trading Card Game Online is also creeping closer to its shutdown date.

The news about the shutdown of Pokemon Trading Card Game Online has been shared via the official Pokemon TCG Twitter page, which typically shares useful information about the franchise, including details about the Pokemon TCG 2022 world championship decks. The account announced that Pokemon Trading Card Game Online would officially be removed from app stores and the website on June 5, with the servers for the game being shut down on that day. Back in March, the game officially dropped support of all newly released TCG products in favor of those products being brought to the newer Pokemon TCG Live.

For players who are rushing to ensure that their strongest Pokemon EX cards are protected, the good news is that there is no cutoff date for migrating accounts over from Pokemon Trading Card Game Online to Pokemon TCG Live. Even after the servers for the former are shut down, account migration to the latter will still be possible, and the shutdown announcement states that there is currently no date for when this will stop being possible.

While Pokemon TCG Live is set to officially launch out of beta on June 8, just a handful of days after the complete shutdown of Pokemon Trading Card Game Online, it is currently only available for PC and mobile devices. Many fans have been clamoring for a version of the game on the Nintendo Switch, but for now, it remains unavailable. The game in its current state has garnered mixed reviews, with many players expressing frustration over major bugs that keep them from playing the game. However, developers have some time to address these issues and improve the game before its official release.
