The highly anticipated Black Clover movie has disappointed fans with the news of a significant delay in its release, attributed to a persistent problem plaguing the anime industry.
Enthusiasts of the popular Shonen Jump fantasy series received a blow as it was announced that the upcoming Black Clover movie would be arriving later than originally intended. The official website for Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King confirmed that the highly anticipated movie’s premiere has been pushed back by three months from its initial scheduled date of March 31, 2023. Fans will now have to wait until June 16 for its anticipated debut. The delay is attributed to the ongoing impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Those who had already purchased advanced tickets for the original screenings will be able to use them for the postponed showings.
It’s worth noting that this delay is not an isolated incident in the anime industry. Numerous other anime productions have also experienced setbacks due to the effects of COVID-19. Shows like Masamune-Kun’s Revenge, Uncle From Another World, and NieR Automata, among others, have announced their own schedule changes in response to the ongoing pandemic.
Black Clover is produced by Pierrot, the renowned studio responsible for well-known series such as Naruto, Tokyo Ghoul, and Ghost Stories. The anime, based on Yuki Tabata’s manga of the same name published by Shueisha, has gained a significant following. The movie, titled The Sword of the Wizard King, will be directed by Ayataka Anemura, known for their work on titles like Devilman: Crybaby and D.Gray-Man Hallow.
For those unfamiliar with the series, Black Clover is set in a fantastical world where magic is a dominant force, and individuals’ success and prestige are closely tied to their magical abilities. The story centers around the protagonist, Asta, who faces rejection and discrimination due to his complete lack of magic. Alongside his adopted brother, Yuno, Asta strives to become a member of the prestigious Magic Knights, eventually finding his place within the Black Bulls Magic Knight squad led by the charismatic Captain Yami.
In the upcoming movie, The Sword of the Wizard King, Asta and his comrades confront four former wizard kings as they embark on a mission to reclaim a legendary weapon seized by the series’ main antagonist. This highly anticipated film marks the first movie installment in the franchise and is expected to be available for streaming on Netflix following its release on June 16.
