Jujutsu Kaisen has become a beloved series for many reasons, but one of the most compelling aspects is the complex relationships between characters and how they affect the larger story. The dynamic between Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, two of the most powerful sorcerers in the series, is particularly fascinating.
Despite being known as the “Strongest duo,” Gojo and Geto have very different personalities. Gojo is brash and arrogant, while Geto is polite and reserved. However, there is a dark side to Geto that Gojo doesn’t share. Geto harbors a deep hatred for non-sorcerer humans, considering them inferior and referring to them as “monkeys.”
As Gojo rises through the ranks and becomes the most powerful sorcerer in the series, Geto becomes increasingly radical and extreme in his views. He eventually goes insane and kills one hundred humans in one night, leading Gojo to take his life and hide his body.
Despite Geto’s tragic end, it is not fair to blame Gojo for his downfall. Geto’s rigid worldview and extremist beliefs were already present from the beginning, and events like their battle against Toji and Gojo’s rising success only exacerbated his resentment towards humanity.
Jujutsu Kaisen author Gege Akutami has revealed that Geto was inspired by Shinobu Sensui, the main antagonist of Yu Yu Hakusho. Like Geto, Sensui was a righteous individual who became twisted after experiencing trauma and witnessing what he perceived as evil. This similarity highlights the fact that Geto’s downfall was already in the works before Gojo’s rise to power.
Despite this, Geto remains an essential character in the series and an integral part of understanding Gojo’s character. His impact and influence on the plot make him a significant figure in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe.
