Ahsoka Animator Creates Realistic Attack on Titan Adaptation

A talented CG animator, Masashi Imagawa, who is currently working on the Ahsoka Disney+ series, has created an impressive live-action fan film based on Attack on Titan.

Imagawa, a CG artist and generalist at Industrial Light & Magic, uploaded a thirty-second clip of his live-action fan film on Twitter. He mentioned that he made the film as a hobby with a friend about two years ago. Imagawa expressed his uncertainty about the demand for faithful full CG adaptations of Japanese manga and anime, despite the numerous live-action adaptations already available.

The fan film was inspired by the Battle of Shiganshina District from Attack on Titan, which introduced the Beast Titan. Imagawa shared a behind-the-scenes clip of his animation process, revealing that he hand-drew the thunder and three-dimensional movement wires frame by frame to maintain a cartoonish expression. The stunning CG rendition of Attack on Titan amazed fans worldwide.

In addition to his work on the Ahsoka Disney+ series, Imagawa has also been involved in the production of The Mandalorian Season 3. Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, is set to premiere on Disney+ in August. The first teaser trailer for the limited series was revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2023. Furthermore, there are plans for an upcoming live-action Star Wars movie that will connect the events of Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett, with Dave Filoni, the showrunner of the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series, at the helm.

Attack on Titan can currently be streamed on platforms like Crunchyroll and Hulu. The first part of Attack on Titan Final Season Part 3 aired in March, with the second half scheduled to air later in 2023.
