New Pokémon theory challenges Ash’s perceived age

Pokemon has entered a new phase with its anime series, and fans seem to be enjoying the transition. With Ash Ketchum’s departure earlier this year, two new protagonists have taken the spotlight, but fans are not ready to forget about Ash just yet. In fact, there are still ongoing discussions and theories surrounding the beloved hero, and one particular theory has gone viral, suggesting that Ash might not be as old as we think.

The running joke about Ash is that he never seems to age despite being on television for decades. He began his journey in the anime as a 10-year-old, and according to the canon, he ended the series at the same age. However, fans often imagine Ash as older in their own interpretations.

Recently, a new theory surfaced on Twitter by user KuroBlitz96, offering their own mathematical take on Ash Ketchum’s age. They propose that Ash left the anime as a 15-year-old trainer, basing their calculations on equating each episode to a single day.

According to this theory, when Ash was 10, he celebrated his first anniversary in the Kanto region before moving on to the Pokemon Orange Islands at age 11. At 11, he continued his journey in Johto and Hoenn, followed by spending his next birthday in Sinnoh and Unova at age 12. By the time he would have turned 13, he would have traveled through Kalos and Alola. Finally, at 14 years old, Ash would have completed his adventures in Pokemon Journeys and bid farewell to the series. Considering these calculations, Ash’s final age in the anime would be around 15, give or take a few episodes. This age aligns better with the reputation and accomplishments of a trainer like Ash.

Of course, it’s important to note that this theory is merely a headcanon and not official canon. However, many Pokemon fans agree that this interpretation fits more seamlessly. While the Pokemon franchise intended for Ash to remain perpetually 10 years old, even the anime itself gradually aged up the character’s design over the years. Given the incredible experiences and growth Ash has gone through as a trainer, it seems plausible that he could have realistically accomplished everything within a span of around 5 years. The idea of Ash being 15 years old resonates better than the extremes of 10 or even 30. Ultimately, the choice of headcanon is up to each individual fan.

As for the future, only time will tell if Ash will return to the screen. The Pokemon anime bid farewell to Ash as its main protagonist, with Pikachu accompanying him. Now, a new anime series called Pokemon Horizons has introduced two new leads, Liko and Roy, ushering in a new era for Pokemon. If you’re interested in meeting these successors, Pokemon Horizons is currently airing weekly in Japan. However, no release information for this particular Pokemon anime has been shared for international audiences at this time.
