The highly anticipated Sailor Moon Cosmos anime films are set to release this June, and as part of the promotional campaign, character trailers showcasing the Sailor Guardians are being unveiled. This week’s focus is on Eternal Sailor Mars and Eternal Sailor Venus, the Inner Guardians, who are featured together in a character trailer released on the franchise’s YouTube channel in Shorts format.
The two-part Sailor Moon Cosmos films are helmed by Tomoya Takahashi, known for his work as an assistant director on Gatchaman Crowds. He will be directing both parts at Toei Animation and Studio Deen. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, acclaimed for his screenplay work on That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, is responsible for the screenplay of Sailor Moon Cosmos. Kazuko Tadano, the talented artist behind the character designs for the first two seasons of Sailor Moon, returns to lend her artistic touch to the films. Yasuharu Takanashi, known for his work on Sailor Moon Crystal, once again takes charge of the music production, while Yumiko Kuga from Studio Jack serves as the art director for the films.
Sailor Moon Cosmos adapts the “final battle” storyline from the original manga series by Naoko Takeuchi, previously featured as the concluding arc of the original Sailor Moon anime known as “Sailor Moon Sailor Stars.” The first film of Sailor Moon Cosmos is scheduled for release on June 9, with the second part set to hit theaters on June 30.
Sailor Moon Cosmos serves as a continuation of the Sailor Moon Eternal two-part film, which premiered in early 2021 in Japan and was later made available on Netflix worldwide on June 3. The Sailor Moon Crystal TV anime series, on which Sailor Moon Eternal is based, can be streamed on Crunchyroll. It retells the captivating story of Sailor Moon as she embarks on a quest to find her fellow Sailor Guardians and the Legendary Silver Crystal, all while combating the malevolent forces led by Queen Beryl.
