A new Gintama anime spinoff has been announced with a fun trailer that parodies Spy x Family and more

The popular anime series Gintama is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary with a bang. As part of the celebrations, the series has announced a new anime spinoff that promises to be a fun-filled, spoofy adventure. At the Gintama Ato no Matsuri event, it was announced that Gintama will adapt the light novel series 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei, featuring Ginpachi as a homeroom teacher and his students from Class 3-Z. Produced by Bandai Namco Pictures, this anime adaptation is just the first of many projects set to run until 2026, as Gintama celebrates its 20th anniversary in style.

Although the light novel series was originally written by Tomohito Osaki and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi from 2006 to 2013, Gintama has shown time and again that it can keep up with the times. And with a fun-loving spoofy trailer already released for the new anime spinoff, fans can expect nothing but the best from this franchise.

The trailer for 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei wastes no time in parodying other popular anime series like Spy x Family, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and even Gintama itself. As usual, the series’ lead character, Gintoki, takes on the ikemen roles of Loid and Gojo Satoru in Spy x Family and Jujutsu Kaisen, respectively. Meanwhile, Shimura Shinpachi stuffs some oranges to give his chest more oomph, parodying Yor from Spy x Family, and brandishes a katana to parody Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s protagonist Yuta Okkotsu. Kagura, on the other hand, shrinks in size but not in personality, to become 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei’s version of Anya from Spy x Family and Rika Orimoto, the cursed spirit from Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Even Sadaharu, the series’ lovable giant dog, takes part in the Jujutsu Kaisen parody as Panda.

Gintama’s animated history is quite lengthy, with the first adaptation produced by Sunrise launching in April 2006 and airing for four seasons before ending in March 2010. The sequel, Gintama’, aired in April 2011 with 51 episodes. Gintama’: Enchōsen continued the sequel and aired in April 2012. From 2015 to 2018, Gintama released other series titled Gintama°, Gintama., Gintama. Porori-hen and Gintama. Shirogane no Tamashii-hen. Three animated movies were produced, with the last one released in 2021, Gintama: The Very Final.

With over 55 million copies sold as of February 2018, Gintama has garnered positive reception for its lovable characters and hilarity, remaining popular among anime fans. The series revolves around the adventures of three freelancers: eccentric samurai Gintoki Sakata, aspiring samurai Shinpachi Shimura, and teenage alien Kagura.

Gintama is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll and Hulu. As of this article’s publication, there has not been a release date announced for 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei. However, fans can look forward to many more projects from Gintama over the next few years as the series continues to celebrate its 20th anniversary in style.
