Albon is keen on proving himself: I still have scores to settle with F1

By moving from Red Bull to Williams, Alex Albon has moved from a top-tier F1 squad to one closer to the back of the pack, but this hasn’t diminished the British-Thai driver’s fire.

The F1 driver Alex Albon maintains that switching from Red Bull to Williams hasn’t diminished his drive to succeed in the motorsport.

The British-Thai racer started his Formula One career in 2019 with the team that was then known as Toro Rosso before being moved to the primary Red Bull team in the middle of the season to replace Pierre Gasly, who then took Albon’s spot at the sister team.

For the balance of the season, Albon scored points at the most of races, and the club decided to keep him for 2020.

He was, though, displaced by Sergio Perez for 2021 and afterwards served as Red Bull’s test and backup racer before making a comeback to the F1 grid with Williams in 2022.

“Of course Red Bull has financial advantages, which still have an effect even with a budget cap,” Albon told German publication Auto Motor und Sport.

“But in terms of structure and working methods, both teams are very similar. The dynamics also always depend on the personalities of the employees.”

Not battling at the front has “no impact” on Albon’s motivation

Albon frequently challenged for podium finishes and points throughout his stint with Red Bull.

Although the objectives at Williams are different, the 26-year-will old’s to succeed has not diminished.

“It has no influence on my motivation,” Albon explained.

“I’m determined to prove to people what I’m capable of. I still have a few scores to settle with Formula 1.

“Of course, the perspective is a bit different. Points are like victories for us. But you soon understand that.

“I still have a lot of fun. We can see the progress. It would be more difficult if we didn’t develop further.”
