The Truck Series race at COTA this weekend will feature Alex Bowman of the NASCAR Cup Series.

Bowman, a Cup racer with seven victories, came very close to taking both the Cup and Truck races at COTA last year.

The Hendrick Motorsports racer participated in the exciting three-way battle for the 2022 COTA Cup victory with Ross Chastain, A.J. Allmendinger, and himself. He came in second.

He was also involved in the fight for the Truck victory at COTA the day before. With two circuits to go in the race, he sent it underneath Stewart Friesen and Kyle Busch to take the lead. Bowman slipped back and managed a sad 25th place finish after all three trucks crashed.

This weekend, he’ll get another chance to redeem himself as the driver of the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevy Silverado. HendrickCars.com will provide sponsorship for him.

“I am excited to get the opportunity to drive the No. 7 truck for Spire Motorsports,” said Bowman. “Last year we were really fast in the truck race at COTA and I am hoping we can be fast again this year. It would be really cool to get a truck win and have won a race in all three of NASCAR’s top series. I feel like racing there in the truck will help me get ready for Sunday as well.”

He will not be the only Cup driver competing in the COTA Truck event, as Kyle Busch and Ross Chastain have also entered.

On May 20, Bowman will race the truck in North Wilkesboro once more. He has made four prior Truck Series appearances, rising as high as sixth at Atlanta in 2017. With Corey LaJoie at the wheel, the Spire team’s most recent participation this season was at Daytona.

“We’re thrilled to have Alex back in the seat of the No. 7 truck for a couple races this season,” said crew chief Kevin Manion. “He was a tremendous asset in 2022 and will be again in 2023. Alex is a savvy road racer and as good of a short-track racer as they come. We have no doubt that Alex gives Spire Motorsports a strong opportunity to win races every time he’s behind the wheel.”
