Chapter 221 of Jujutsu Kaisen manga unveils Gojo’s long-awaited unsealing

If, like me, you’re a devoted reader of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, then you’ve been eagerly awaiting this moment for quite some time. Well, the wait is finally over as we witness the triumphant return of Gojo, who is now more powerful and self-assured than ever before. In the Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK) manga chapter 221, we learn about the long-awaited release of Gojo Satoru. So, let’s delve into the details of how Gojo was freed in the latest chapter.

Before we discuss his release, let’s quickly recap how Gojo ended up sealed in the first place. In Jujutsu Kaisen manga chapter 90, also known as “The Shibuya Incident, Part 8” during the Shibuya Incident arc, Kenjaku devised a brilliant plan to imprison Gojo Satoru in the prison realm. To seal him away, Kenjaku needed Gojo to be within a four-meter radius for one minuteā€”a difficult feat considering Gojo’s immense power. However, Kenjaku, disguising himself as Geto Suguru (Pseudo-Geto), revealed himself to Gojo, who was shocked to see his deceased best friend alive once again. It’s important to note that Gojo was the one who dealt the final blow to Geto, and the meaning behind Gojo’s last words to him were previously explored in Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s ending.

As a result, Gojo was momentarily distracted and lost in thought about the past, allowing Kenjaku to successfully capture him. Since then, fans have been keeping count of the days Gojo has been sealed, which has amounted to 1888 days. Time certainly flew by quickly during these three years, didn’t it? Now that we understand how Gojo was sealed, let’s move on to his release.

In JJK Chapter 221, titled “Back with a Bang!,” we finally witness Gojo’s long-awaited comeback. While the culling games have been progressing slowly, introducing new characters and unfolding a gradual storyline, Chapter 220 hinted at Gojo’s return. However, to everyone’s surprise, it actually happens in Chapter 221 itself. After three years of anticipation, Gojo is finally released from the prison realm with the assistance of Hana Kurusu.

Hana Kurusu utilizes her Angel’s curse technique, Jacob’s ladder, to open the back gate of the prison realm, setting Gojo free. Upon his release, Gojo immediately heads toward the location where Kenjaku and Sukuna are, leaving the sorcerers who freed him bewildered. Kenjaku is perplexed as to how Gojo managed to escape after the back of the prison realm was absorbed.

Despite being trapped inside the prison realm for 19 days in the manga timeline (and three years for readers), Gojo’s confidence remains unmatched. He asserts his dominance by intimidating Kenjaku and belittling Sukuna as if he were inconsequential. When Uraume attempts a surprise attack, Gojo effortlessly delivers a punch to her gut. In the final panels of the chapter, Gojo recalls a conversation with Itadori Yuji from earlier chapters where he confidently states that he would not lose even if Sukuna gained his full power by consuming all his fingers. This serves as a nostalgic throwback to Gojo’s words after his release.

Now that Gojo is back in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 221, he faces the daunting task of dealing with formidable opponents in the upcoming chapters. Fans are ecstatic to see the return of the legendary Gojo sensei, and we can only wonder how this fight will unfold. It’s quite amusing that Gojo was trapped in the prison realm for only 19 days in the manga timeline, yet readers had to wait nearly three years to witness his reappearance. It’s truly shocking, isn’t it?

Nevertheless, Gojo sensei hasn’t lost any of his charisma despite his prolonged confinement. He remains the same charming jujutsu sorcerer, exuding an eerie aura, displaying his humor by taunting enemies, and exuding unwavering confidence.
