During the opening practise session at the Circuit Paul Ricard, Nyck de Vries, who is supported by Mercedes, will take the place of Lewis Hamilton.
At this weekend’s French Grand Prix, Mercedes has informed that Nyck de Vries would participate for the squad in first practise.
For the first hour of Friday’s road courses, De Vries will take over Lewis Hamilton’s car as part of one of two required young racer sessions the squad must perform this year.
The 27-year-old Dutch driver, who replaced Nicholas Latifi in FP1 with Williams at the Spanish GP, now has a chance to drive for the Silver Arrows.
“Nyck is replacing Lewis in first practice this weekend, as part of the allocated sessions for young drivers this year, so we’re looking forward to seeing how he gets on,” confirmed Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff.
De Vries won the F2 championship in 2019 before eventually winning the Formula E championship. De Vries was a new racer with both McLaren and Mercedes.
