Is it a good idea for a new Dragon Ball Super anime to cover previous story arcs?

The possibility of a new Dragon Ball Super anime adapting previous story arcs is a subject of debate among fans. Some want entirely new stories while others would like to see the manga’s “Galactic Patrol Prisoner” and “Granolah the Survivor” arcs adapted. However, the manga and anime versions of the “Universe 6,” “Future Trunks,” and “Universe Survival Saga” arcs have major differences, which raises the question of whether earlier manga arcs should also be animated.

The Super manga’s depiction of Super Saiyan God and Blue forms, as well as Ultra Instinct, are expanded and fleshed out in ways that make them more significant and meaningful. The manga’s cohesive narrative and tangible escalation make it a worthy continuation of Dragon Ball stories centered on Goku’s growth. The manga includes extra moments and flourishes that would be popular if animated, but there may be limited appeal in re-adapting old arcs that are eight years old or more.

While there may be merit to a Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood-style faithful adaptation of the Dragon Ball Super manga, it seems unlikely that Toei Animation will do so, as new material would likely center around new characters and forms to market. Fans can hope that if the “Moro” and “Granolah” arcs get adapted, they receive the treatment they deserve.
