“Jujutsu Kaisen” season 2 anime video reveals new cast, director, and July 6 premiere date (updated)

The production team behind “Jujutsu Kaisen” season 2 anime recently unveiled a new promotional video, a fresh visual, and a handful of new cast members, as well as announcing the show’s new director and premiere date. The anime will debut on July 6, 2023, on MBS and TBS, along with 28 other affiliated channels.

Shōta Goshozono, who previously directed episodes 8 and 17 of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” has been named as the new director of the anime, taking over from Sunghoo Park. Along with the new director, the anime will also feature several new cast members, including Anna Nagase as Riko Amanai and Takehito Koyasu as Toji Fushiguro.

The second season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” will span two cours (quarters of a year) and will run for a continuous half-year, adapting both the “Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu” arc and the “Shibuya Incident” arc. The first season of the anime premiered in October 2020, and Crunchyroll streamed it outside of Asia as it aired in Japan. The streaming platform also offered dubbed versions of the show in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.

In addition to the upcoming season, a “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” anime film was released in Japan in December 2021. The film premiered with English subtitles and with an English dub in the United States and Canada on March 18, 2022. The movie is based on Gege Akutami’s “Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Tokyo Toritsu Jujutsu Kōtō Senmon Gakkō” manga prequel story.

Furthermore, a new smartphone role-playing game called “Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade” is set to release in spring 2023, providing fans with an additional way to immerse themselves in the world of “Jujutsu Kaisen.”

The manga, which was created by Gege Akutami and serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since March 2018, follows the story of high school student Yuji Itadori and his encounters with curses and sorcerers. Viz Media is currently publishing the manga’s English translations digitally on its Shonen Jump app, and Shueisha is also releasing the manga digitally on its MANGA Plus service.
