In a surprising turn of events, a previously thought lost crossover episode between Cartoon Network’s Johnny Bravo and the influential anime series Dragon Ball Z has made a comeback. The crossover took place during the JBVO: Your All Request Cartoon Show programming block, which aired from 2000 to 2001.
During an episode that aired on May 5, 2000, a caller named Jennifer from Colorado requested Johnny Bravo to play her favorite Dragon Ball Z episode, featuring Goku’s epic battle against Frieza. However, due to time constraints, Johnny Bravo could only provide a sped-up version of the episode, accompanied by his witty commentary.
The rediscovered episode, capturing the climax of the Goku vs. Frieza battle, was recently unearthed and shared on the Internet Archive. The discovery gained traction when lost media specialist YouTuber LSuperSonicQ tweeted the link, bringing attention to the long-lost crossover.
LSuperSonicQ’s connection to a viewer, whose mother had worked at Cartoon Network and possessed the complete collection of JBVO episodes, played a crucial role in uncovering the lost gem. This finding not only delighted fans but also demonstrated the potential for lost media to resurface even after an extended period.
With nearly half of the JBVO episodes previously considered lost, this discovery marks an exciting milestone in the ongoing quest to preserve and uncover animation history. As LSuperSonicQ plans to make all the JBVO segments available to the public, fans can anticipate further reunions with forgotten gems from the past.
