In 2015, a user named Schrroms introduced Pokemon Infinite Fusion on the Pokecommunity platform, presenting a unique twist on the classic Pokemon Red version. While it may initially appear as a ROM hack, the game incorporates gameplay features that surpass those found in most other hacks. Moreover, it is packaged as a .exe file specifically designed for Windows-based PCs.

Although the game’s storyline is relatively light on plot, Pokemon Infinite Fusion’s main attraction lies in the reintroduction of the DNA Splicer, a mechanic originally seen in Pokemon Black and White 2 for the Nintendo DS. However, in this fanmade game, the splicer allows players to fuse multiple Pokemon together, resulting in entirely new creatures.

To bring these fusions to life, Infinite Fusion relies on the Pokemon Fusion Generator, an online resource that provides fully-developed sprites for the fused creatures. This collaboration with the community has led to the creation of over 50,000 custom sprites for the in-game fusions, showcasing a wide range of visually interesting and sometimes amusing combinations.

The game follows a similar structure to Pokemon Red, where players embark on a journey to collect eight gym badges, defeat the Elite Four to become the League Champion, and thwart the plans of the notorious Team Rocket. Throughout this adventure, trainers not only train and evolve their Pokemon but also fuse them to create new and powerful species.

Infinite Fusion offers every Pokemon from the first two generations of the series, along with 101 additional species from Generations III to VII. Each fused creature inherits the attributes, abilities, and learnable moves from its “parent” Pokemon, resulting in unique combinations of elemental types and movesets that were not originally possible in the official games.
