Redeeming the most ridiculous villains in Dragon Ball Z

Although the Ginyu Force may have met their demise in Dragon Ball Z, there is potential for their revival as unlikely heroes alongside a half-Saiyan who they once terrorized. Dragon Ball Super has introduced a plethora of new foes for Goku and his allies to face, but the return of Frieza as a more powerful threat than ever before has added a familiar face to the mix. While Frieza is not a completely changed villain, there are other classic foes who could potentially undergo a transformation.

The Ginyu Force is a prime example of villains who could be transformed into heroes. Although they were villains in their prime, they had a fun-loving persona, especially Captain Ginyu himself, who was dedicated to looking cool and flaunting their muscles. They were powerful enough to make even the battle-hardened Vegeta afraid, and it was only with Goku’s arrival that the Z Fighters had a chance of taking them all down. While many of the villains in Dragon Ball Z were serious and powerful, the Ginyu Force combined incredible power levels with a sense of humor, bridging the gap between the grandiose Dragon Ball Z and its lighthearted predecessor, Dragon Ball. This made them iconic, and it’s high time for their return to the limelight.

Furthermore, the Ginyu Force could easily become reluctant heroes in Dragon Ball Super. Frieza has already been brought back into the series, and while he is as villainous as ever, the Ginyu Force could have a change of heart. Most of the aliens were killed off by Vegeta on Namek, and Captain Ginyu himself was destroyed by the Saiyan prince during the “Golden Frieza” saga. However, with the acquisition of the Dragon Balls, Frieza could attempt to revive the Ginyu Force to bolster his ranks after witnessing the power of Goku’s friends.

It would be an ironic development for the Ginyu Force to no longer want to work with Frieza, instead questioning their former villainy and noting their strange mannerisms are more like that of traditional Earth superheroes. This comparison is even stronger given Gohan’s persona as the Great Saiyaman, which many argue was inspired by the Ginyu Force’s maniacal moves. If the Ginyu Force were to join forces with Gohan, it could be an opportunity for him to confront the pain and fear they once inflicted upon him on Namek. This could inspire the Ginyu Force to act under Gohan’s wing as heroes and develop their characters further while maintaining their comedic personalities and immense power. Overall, it would be a fun way to bring these iconic characters back into the Dragon Ball universe.
