Surviving in a hypothetical scenario is deemed possible for Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen

Chapter 220 of the popular manga series Jujutsu Kaisen has left many fans wondering about the fate of the protagonist, Yuji Itadori. In this chapter, titled “Self-Purification, Self-Constraint,” Yuji has a conversation with Amai in which he says, “I’d eat anything to kill that creep” with a resolute expression. While it remains unconfirmed, many fans have interpreted this to mean that Yuji may have eaten the other Death Paintings to increase his strength.

For those who may not be familiar with the concept, the Death Paintings are nine special grade cursed objects that are half-human and half-curses. They were obtained by Tokyo Jujutsu High and subsequently sealed using constraints. The manga has so far shown three humans who have consumed the Death Paintings: Eso, Kechizu, and Choso. Originally, the Death Painting Wombs were human-like fetuses, but once implanted into a human vessel, they become practically indiscernible from normal humans and can also feel emotions.

Fans have been anxious about what this could mean for Yuji, but they need not worry about his fate. The series’ mangaka, Gege Akutami, had long since answered this question in a fanbook. Given Yuji’s high resistance to curses, many fans have wondered what would happen if he were to eat a Death Painting. Akutami revealed that either the Death Painting becomes like that of Sukuna’s current state or the cursed object itself becomes cursed energy within Itadori. Ultimately, the mangaka concluded that Sukuna would merely destroy the Death Painting inside Yuji.

Jujutsu Kaisen has gained a huge following since its debut in Weekly Shōnen Jump in March 2018. The series follows the story of Yuji Itadori, an unusually physically athletic high school student who becomes involved in the world of curses and sorcerers when he swallows a rotten finger talisman that belongs to Sukuna, a powerful Curse known as the King of Curses. While the sorcerers are all keen to destroy Yuji, he manages to get his death sentence postponed with the help of Satoru Gojo. Yuji can stay alive until he finds and eats the rest of Sukuna’s fingers. After he’s done so, the sorcerers will kill him, thus ridding the world of Sukuna altogether.

The anime adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen was produced by MAPPA and debuted in October 2020, with Sunghoo Park directing the first season. The prequel film, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, was released in December 2021 and follows another sorcerer named Yuta Okkotsu. The film grossed 13.75 billion yen during its theatrical run. MAPPA has confirmed that Season 2 of the popular anime will release on July 6, with Shōta Goshozono replacing Park as the director. Season 2 will adapt the “Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu” and “Shibuya Incident” arcs with Yuichi Nakamura, Satoru Gojo’s voice actor, confirming that the season will add more anime-original content.

In conclusion, fans of Jujutsu Kaisen need not worry about Yuji Itadori’s fate after eating the Death Paintings. While the manga has left some ambiguity about whether or not he has consumed the other cursed objects, the series’ mangaka has confirmed that Sukuna would merely destroy the Death Painting inside Yuji. With the anime adaptation gaining immense popularity, fans can look forward to the release of Season 2 in July 2023, which will adapt two major arcs from the manga and feature more
