The first trailer of ‘Darling in the Franxx’ makes a mysterious debut

Studio Trigger and A-1 Pictures’ upcoming series ‘Darling in the Franxx’ is one of the most anticipated shows of 2018, but still shrouded in mystery. The first trailer for the show, which mainly focuses on introducing the characters and designs of the series, adds to the intrigue. Despite the English subtitles on Crunchyroll making it somewhat easier to understand, there are still many questions left unanswered until the show finally airs.

‘Darling in the Franxx’ is set to premiere on January 13 and will be part of both Crunchyroll’s Winter 2018 simulcast and Funimation’s Winter 2018 English dub schedules. The show revolves around humanity’s establishment of the mobile fort city, Plantation, on a ruined wasteland where civilization has flourished. The children live in pilot quarters called Mistilteinn, also known as the “Birdcage,” and operate robots known as Franxx to fight against their enemies, the mysterious giant organisms known as Kyoryu. The story follows Code number 016, Hiro, a former child prodigy who is now considered a failure and unneeded. One day, he meets a mysterious girl called Zero Two, who has two alluring horns growing from her face.

Directed by Atsushi Nishigori, with Toshifumi Akai as assistant director, and Masayoshi Tanaka as character designer, the show focuses on pairs of children who each get their own mecha to pilot, the Franxx. Shigeto Koyama provides the mechanical designs, and Hiroyuki Imaishi is supervising the action. Mika Nakashima and L’Arc en Ciel’s Hyde are collaborating on the opening theme song “Kiss of Death,” and the creator of Black Cat and To Love Ru, Kentaro Yabuki, is launching a manga adaptation of the series on January 14. With such a talented team working on the show, ‘Darling in the Franxx’ has the potential to be one of the most exciting shows of 2018.
