On April 1, 2023, the official Twitter account of Tokyo Revengers announced that the popular anime series will be returning with a new anime series. Fans of the manga and anime were thrilled to hear this news, and the announcement came with a promise to adapt the Tenjiku Arc from the manga.
To commemorate this announcement, the Tokyo Revengers Twitter account unveiled a new trailer and key visual, which gave fans a sneak peek of what to expect from the new anime series. In addition to this, the account revealed two new cast members who will be joining the team, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Izana Kurokawa, and Tetsu Inada as Kanji Mochizuki.
This announcement comes after the Christmas Showdown Arc ended on April 2, 2023, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the Tokyo Revengers story. Tokyo Revengers is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Ken Wakui, which has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since March 2017. The manga has been collected in 29 tankōbon volumes as of August 2022, and has sold over 65 million copies in circulation, including 7 million copies outside of Japan, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
An anime television series adaptation produced by Liden Films aired from April to September 2021 and was well-received by fans and critics alike. A live-action film adaptation was also released in Japan in July 2021, with its sequel set to be released in 2023.
Tokyo Revengers tells the story of Takemichi Hanagaki, a washed-up nonentity who was once at the top of his game in middle school, with a gang of friends, a girlfriend, and respect. However, twelve years later, Takemichi is a nobody, made fun of by children and always forced to apologize to his younger boss. His life takes a tragic turn when he hears news of the Tokyo Manji Gang’s cruel murder of his only girlfriend and her brother. In a twist of fate, Takemichi is transported back in time to relive the day when he was still dating Hinata Tachibana, his ex-girlfriend. He meets Hinata’s younger brother and urges him to protect his sister before being transported back to the future, where he discovers that he has the power to alter the flow of time. Given the chance to prevent his ex-girlfriend’s tragic death, Takemichi decides to travel through time to change the course of the future.
