Tokyo Revengers voice actors reveal their favorite moments from the Christmas Showdown arc

At AnimeJapan 2023, four cast members of Tokyo Revengers gathered to discuss their favorite episodes from the ongoing Christmas Showdown Arc.

The event began with Yūki Shin (Takemichi Hanagaki), Shō Karino (Chifuyu Matsuno), Tasuku Hatanaka (Hakkai Shiba), and Tomokazu Sugita (Taiju Shiba) taking the stage in their respective gang uniforms: Shin and Karino in Tokyo Manji Gang, and Hatanaka and Sugita in BLACK DRAGON. The colors of BLACK DRAGON’s uniform, red and white, are commonly associated with celebrations in Japan, leading the voice actors to comment on the auspiciousness of the occasion.

During the lighthearted banter, Karino mentioned how Hatanaka had previously stated he would never wear a BLACK DRAGON uniform again, alluding to Hakkai’s affiliation with both gangs. Hatanaka, momentarily troubled, eventually admitted his love for both uniforms and his decision to wear the BLACK DRAGON uniform this time, just in case he never gets the opportunity again. Sugita also expressed the enjoyment of wearing a cool uniform, comparing it to being an idol.

Moving on to their favorite episodes of the Christmas Showdown Arc, Sugita chose episode 28, titled “Family bonds.” He praised the episode’s depiction of familial love and the twisted way it manifests, jokingly mentioning the unexpected depth of Taiju’s voice as a young character, a role he also voiced.

Hatanaka’s favorite episode was episode 32, called “Strive together.” He highlighted the scene where Yuzuha is embraced by her mother, emphasizing the significance for both Yuzuha’s and Hakkai’s character development. Hatanaka described it as a scene that shows Hakkai’s need to believe he is protecting her in order to preserve his own mental state. Karino mentioned watching the scene repeatedly after the stream ended.

Karino’s chosen episode was episode 30, titled “Whip up morale,” which resonated with his character, Chifuyu. The episode features a unique scene not found in the original manga, showcasing the complicated relationship between Chifuyu and Keisuke Baji. Karino shared a behind-the-scenes story about the recording and a recurring mistake made during the Bloody Halloween Arc.

Shin also picked episode 32, “Strive together,” specifically enjoying the moment when the Toman members accept Hakkai’s vulnerability, showcasing Takemichi’s growth in kindness. Hatanaka added his perspective on how the scene must have played out for Hakkai, who longed for understanding before revealing his true feelings.

Although the cast briefly discussed upcoming highlights, they refrained from providing detailed spoilers since episode 36 would be airing the following day in the Kanto region of Japan.

As the Tokyo Revengers stage show concluded, Shin led the audience in the customary greeting. Since Yu Hayashi (Manjiro Sano) was absent from the event, Hatanaka had the honor of leading the greeting. The cast stood tall and bid farewell with a final “DISMISSED.” They expressed gratitude to the crowd and bowed at a proper ninety-degree angle.

The Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown Arc AnimeJapan 2023 event offered a retrospective look at the ongoing arc, leaving the audience eager to watch the recommended episodes repeatedly.
