Trevor Bayne, the 2011 Daytona 500 champion, will return to the Xfinity Series for the first time since 2016. Joe Gibbs Racing confirmed Wednesday night that Bayne will compete in seven Xfinity races this season.
Devotion Nutrition will sponsor Bayne, who will drive the No. 18 car.
Auto Club Speedway (Feb. 26), Phoenix (March 12), Charlotte (May 28), Nashville (June 25), New Hampshire (July 16), Las Vegas (Oct. 15), and Homestead (Nov. 15) are his seven Xfinity races (Oct. 22).
Between 2010 and 2018, Bayne competed in 187 Cup events. Between 2009 and 2016, he competed in 152 Xfinity events. He left NASCAR following the 2018 season and returned in 2020 to compete in eight Camping World Truck Series races. Last year, he did not take part in any of NASCAR’s three national series.
“Over the past three years I didn’t know if I’d ever get an opportunity to race for wins again, but my desire to do so never faded,” Bayne said in a statement from the team. “I’m so excited to have this opportunity to work with Jason (Ratcliff) and everyone at JGR. I want nothing more than to come back stronger than ever and put that Devotion Nutrition GR Supra into victory lane.”
This year, Ratcliff will serve as the crew chief for the No. 18 team. Additional drivers and sponsors for the No. 18 car are anticipated to be published soon, according to Joe Gibbs Racing.
