When do Larvesta and Volcarona arrive in Pokemon GO?

With a new month just around the corner, Pokémon GO players worldwide are getting ready for the upcoming wave of content from Niantic. Alongside the content rotations expected in May, two new Pokémon have been announced to join the game.

The two creatures in question are Larvesta and Volcarona, Bug-type Pokémon from the Unova region. Known for their lengthy evolution requirements and being part of the original champion Alder’s team, these Pokémon have become familiar to fans of the main series.

Since May is still a few days away, many players might not be aware of these new additions to Pokémon GO. Fortunately, Niantic has shared various details about Larvesta and Volcarona on the game’s official Twitter page.

So, what do we know about Larvesta and Volcarona in relation to Pokémon GO?

Larvesta and Volcarona are set to debut in Pokémon GO on May 2, 2023, as part of the “An Instinctive Hero” event.

Larvesta, being the pre-evolved form of Volcarona, will be more common and can be encountered in the wild. It will also have a chance to hatch from two, five, and ten-kilometer eggs.

Staying true to Larvesta’s evolution requirements, it will require a substantial amount of candies, specifically 400, to evolve into Volcarona. Many players will likely make Larvesta their Buddy Pokémon to efficiently gather the necessary candies, similar to the strategy used for Pokémon like Magikarp and Wailmer, which also require 400 candies to evolve in Pokémon GO.

Upon their release, Larvesta and Volcarona will be the only Fire and Bug-type Pokémon available in the mobile game. This unique type combination might pose a challenge for some players in battles. However, both types share a weakness to Rock-type attacks, suggesting that encountering Volcarona in the Battle League should not be overly difficult to handle.

Volcarona will be an offensive-oriented Pokémon, with its highest base stat being its Attack in Pokémon GO. However, its Defense and Stamina stats, hovering around 200, indicate that it will still have decent bulkiness in neutral matchups.

As a Fire-type Pokémon, Volcarona is better suited for a more aggressive role in battles, often utilized toward the latter stages of a battle rather than being the lead Pokémon.

The addition of new Pokémon in Pokémon GO always generates excitement, and the fact that Larvesta and Volcarona are fan favorites from the Unova region only amplifies the anticipation for their arrival.
