Who’s Gintoki in Gintama?

In the world of anime, Gintoki from Gintama stands out as a unique character. He is a complex and multi-dimensional protagonist, who is relatable in many ways. Although he may seem lazy and laid-back, Gintoki is a skilled swordsman who is fiercely protective of his family and friends. He is the founder of the Yorozuya, a place where clients can pay him to do odd jobs. Despite being broke, Gintoki tries his best to complete every job to the best of his ability.

Gintoki’s early life is shrouded in mystery, but it is revealed that he spent his childhood searching for food and weapons to protect himself. He was known as the Corpse Eating Demon until he was taken in by Yoshida Shouyou at his academy, Shoka Sonjuku. Gintoki met others like Takasugi Shinsuke and Katsura Kotarou at the academy. The absence of a family during his early life has influenced Gintoki’s perception of the importance of having a family, which is perhaps the most important thing to him.

Gintoki’s backstory is crucial to his present and future, but it doesn’t overshadow his present storyline, which works well for the show because it reflects a sense of realism. The story follows Gintoki as he takes two young teens under his wing, Kagura and Shinpachi, eventually becoming a relatively dysfunctional family.

Despite his comedic moments, Gintoki’s character is more than just a one-dimensional character. He is a fully-rounded character who adapts to situations realistically. For example, during comedic episodes, he is lazy and sarcastic. On the other hand, when a serious problem arises, Gintoki is an excellent swordsman who is also exceptionally stubborn and protective of his friends and family.

Overall, Gintoki remains one of the best protagonists in anime due to these realistic elements. His complexity and multi-dimensionality make him relatable and endearing to fans of the show. If you haven’t already, check out Gintama on Crunchyroll and Hulu to see Gintoki’s character in action.
