Danilo Petrucci, a two-time MotoGP race winner and currently a Dakar Stage winner, has been confirmed to compete in the 2022 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship.

The Italian will return to Ducati by riding a Panigale V4 for the Warhorse HSBK Racing team after spending the 2021 MotoGP season and Dakar with KTM.

Before joining MotoGP, Petrucci finished second on a Ducati Superbike in the 2011 FIM Superstock 1000 Championship. He will relocate to America to be closer to the team’s base in Pennsylvania.

“I’m so happy that I am coming back to race with Ducati, and I would like to give a special thank you to all the Ducati people who made this project possible,” Petrucci said.

“I spoke about this project with Eraldo Ferracci (Advisor, Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York) at Circuit of The Americas last year and all the management starting with Claudio Domenicali, Gigi Dall’Igna, Paolo Ciabatti and Davide Tardozzi, and they were really happy to have me on board again.

“I want to continue to have fun and to keep riding my bike, so I have chosen this project to make a new experience on the human side. I will live in America, this is something new and exciting for me, so I am very curious and eager to start.”

“Danilo is a world-class rider and very well-liked and respected, having had great success in MotoGP,” said 500cc icon and MotoAmerica president Wayne Rainey.

“Coming to MotoAmerica, Danilo will find some extremely competitive racing around some iconic racetracks, and I think he will really enjoy the culture of living in the United States and seeing this beautiful country.”

The 2022 MotoAmerica season will begin on April 8-10 at COTA. The only other circuit on the schedule that Petrucci will be familiar with from MotoGP is Laguna Seca, which takes place on July 8-10.
