Lewis Hamilton is on pace to beat Schumacher’s long-standing record

Lewis Hamilton has set a number of records in Formula One over his tenure with Mercedes, and he seems likely to break another this weekend at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which was previously held by Michael Schumacher.

After realising that he is on track to shatter another another one of Michael Schumacher’s F1 records at this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton has expressed his delight.

With 179 Grands Prix under his belt as a Ferrari driver, Schumacher now holds the record for most races with one constructor.

As things stand, Hamilton is on par with the record, but will surpass it when he participates in his 180th race with Mercedes in Jeddah.

Hamilton reflects on “amazing” new record

Hamilton confesses he had no idea he’d be breaking the record when he signed Mercedes in 2013, but he praises the team’s “loyalty” to him since then.

When asked about the new figure, Hamilton informed the media “I didn’t know that.”

“That’s pretty amazing. I’m grateful for Mercedes’ loyalty to me over the years.”

Hamilton has a long history with the Silver Arrows, having worked for McLaren for many years.

“I’ve been with Mercedes since I was 13, so it’s a long stretch together,” Hamilton added.

“I’m very much embedded in the family, and grateful to be a part of their history and continuing to work on adding to that in the future.”

Which Formula One drivers have earned the most races for a one constructor?

With a deal that extends through 2023, Hamilton’s record of 180 Grands Prix with Mercedes appears certain to be surpassed, a feat that no other driver has ever accomplished.

However, a number of well-known figures in the sport, notably Kimi Raikkonen, Jenson Button, and Mika Hakkinen, have become centurions with one constructor.

Max Verstappen is now 11th in the standings, having competed in 119 races for Red Bull. However, considering his current contract extension, which keeps him with the organisation through the end of 2028, this amount is certain to rise dramatically in the coming years.
