Perez expresses his views on the changes to Albert Park after simulator run

As the Australian Grand Prix returns to the schedule this weekend, Formula One drivers will face a revamped Albert Park.

Sergio Perez has provided insight into the many improvements made to the Albert Park Circuit in preparation for the Australian Grand Prix this year.

After the reconfiguration of numerous corners, the elimination of the Turn 9-10 chicane in favour of a longer’straight,’ and the planned introduction of a fourth DRS zone, Melbourne’s renowned street track is projected to be faster than ever.

Perez spent time in the Red Bull simulator earlier this week to familiarise himself with the new layout, and the Mexican has shared his initial comments on the work that has been done.

Perez tips suggestions to be “good for the show”

Perez believes the aforementioned makeover will enhance the situation and contribute to the spectacle for viewers on race day, as passing chances have previously been limited around the tight and twisty track.

“It is great to be back in Melbourne after two years away; it is always a fun place to race,” Perez commented as he previewed the event.

“This year the track layout is new, so it will be interesting to see how this fresh generation of cars gets on there.

“I did some simulator work at the beginning of the week on the track and I think the changes should be good for the show – it will make things entertaining.”

Perez is looking for greater fortune in Australia

Perez is looking forward to a trouble-free week in Australia following a rocky start to the 2022 season.

After both Red Bulls crashed out in the dying moments of the season opener in Bahrain, Perez came back to claim his first F1 pole position in Saudi Arabia, only to have his race ruined by a poorly-timed Safety Car.

“It has been so close in the races so far and the team and I have been unlucky at times, but I am confident that my luck will change this weekend,” added Perez.

“We have a strong package this season and I can’t wait to get in the car again to see what we can do!”
