Ocon reveals what actually caused Hamilton’s pit lane panic

After receiving a five-second punishment for an unsafe release, Esteban Ocon fallen from 11th to 14th in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on Sunday. Following that, the Frenchman described how he nearly clashed with Lewis Hamilton as he exited his pit box.

Esteban Ocon claims that his dangerous release in Sunday’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was caused by faulty equipment from the AlphaTauri pit box.

Ocon almost collided with Lewis Hamilton as they exited the pit lane after switching to slick tyres, and the Frenchman said he was forced closer to the pit wall than he would have wanted.

“It was the [wheel gun] tube of the [AlphaTauri] team from in front, I think, that made me go to the left,” Ocon told media, including RacingNews365.com.

“Otherwise, I reckon there would have been space for Lewis on the left.

“Not an easy situation, but we have to try to take risks.”

Alpine’s disappointing Imola weekend was a cause of annoyance for Ocon

Ocon’s weekend in Imola had started horribly as he could not achieve a meaningful lap time during Friday’s test session, forcing him to start 19th in the Sprint race on Saturday.

Because of his poor starting position, he was only able to complete 16th in the Sprint, forcing him to begin Sunday’s race from there.

Alonso’s colleague Fernando Alonso, who withdrew with sidepod problems after a snag from Mick Schumacher, also struggled to score points on Sunday.

As a result, Ocon was left to lament a challenging race for Alpine, which fell to sixth in the Constructors’ Championship after Alfa Romeo.

He did say, though, that he expected some changes to his A522 for the next round in Miami.

“We were lacking a bit of pace towards the end,” said Ocon.

“There was too much tyre degradation on our side to put too much pressure on Lance [Stroll in 10th], but in the end, it looks worse, the result, because of that penalty.

“For the team, it’s a frustrating weekend in general. I think we have to reset.

“On my side, there will be some new parts on the car [for the Miami Grand Prix], and I look forward to seeing what that gives us performance-wise.”
