Latifi will benefit from Williams’ update package

Williams was able to complete a second set of improvements in time for the visit to Paul Ricard, so both racers will have new equipment available to them.

It has been revealed that Nicholas Latifi will race Williams’ upgrade package alongside colleague Alex Albon at the French Grand Prix.

Williams introduced the changes at the British Grand Prix, but since they only had one set of the new components, they gave them to Albon, who is currently leading the rankings.

Albon’s early retirement at Silverstone, followed by the confusing Sprint race in Austria a week later, hindered early learning.

But for the race this weekend at the Circuit Paul Ricard, both cars will now be equipped with the most recent advancements.

Latifi is “very thrilled” as updates about his car arrive

Latifi is interested to see how Albon does with the new cars after he finished just outside the points in 12th at the Red Bull Ring.

“I’m super excited to get to France because it’s the first race where I’m going to have the upgrade package,” said Latifi in Williams’ preview of the French GP.

“We’ve seen some positive signs from it on Alex’s car so far, so I’m looking forward to getting my first taste.

“Hopefully it can bring us that extra bit of relative pace that we’ve missed and put us more in the fight.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the development of the car and hopefully we can get some good data going forward.”

Williams’ strategy for the French GP

Williams’ Head of Vehicle Performance, Dave Robson, is optimistic that the hot weather predicted for the weekend would enable the team to maximise its research with both cars.

“Having introduced some new parts to Alex’s car over the last couple of races, we are now in a position where both cars can run with the upgrades,” he said.

“Although the weather in Silverstone and the Sprint format in Austria were not ideal for testing, we have seen enough encouraging feedback to be confident that we have taken a step forward.

“With the weather likely to be warm, dry and stable this weekend, we’ll look to use Friday’s running to get Nicky up to speed with the new parts and also to continue to understand how best to exploit the performance of the new package.”
