Max Verstappen, a fellow two-time World Champion, has received compliments from Fernando Alonso. However, the Spaniard also stated that he expects to see more challenging competition for the Dutch driver in the 2023 season.
To congratulate Max Verstappen to the group of two-time World Champions, Fernando Alonso posted a video greeting on YouTube.
With 4 races remaining, Verstappen claimed his second title in a shortened Japanese Grand Prix. The Dutchman’s victory gave him sufficient of points lead over Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez to do so.
Verstappen now shares two championships with Alonso, who has complimented the 25-year-old’s accomplishment.
Alonso praises Verstappen for being “outstanding”
Alonso commented in a video that Alpine put on its social media pages: “Congratulations to Max and Red Bull.
“It was outstanding, the job that they have been doing this year. When you win a championship [with] four races to the end, it means that you did something exceptional.
“Congratulations, welcome to the club!”
Verstappen has received Alonso’s best wishes for his own career aspirations despite the Spaniard’s inability to add to his number of titles.
When the 2022 World Champion competes for a third title in 2023, he also wants to see a more talented opponent.
“Hopefully you [will have] more luck than what I had!” Alonso – who will move from Alpine to Aston Martin next season – joked in the video.
“Next year, hopefully you will have more competition than this year, and I’m [hoping to be] on that spot as well.”
