In his native Australia, Michael Masi, a former Formula 1 race director, has received a new role.
After leaving the FIA earlier this year, experienced Formula 1 race director Michael Masi has secured a new position inside Australian racing.
Following the 2021 Formula One final season, where contentious choices to speed up the Safety Car procedure had an influence on the season’s closing laps, Masi came under the spotlight.
After the controversy, Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas were appointed as the new race directors for 2022, replacing Masi, who had been removed due to the incident.
Prior to departing the FIA earlier this year and going back to his native Australia to take the position of chairman of the SuperCars Commission, he was first assigned to another position. Before his time in Formula 1, Masi had experience in the Australian Supercars.
Along with his current position with Supercars, the 44-year-old will begin a new position in 2023 as a member of the board of Karting Australia.
