Magnussen is uncertain for Daytona 24 hours after his surgery

The Daytona 24 Hours, which is later this month, where Kevin Magnussen was supposed to make his racing debut, howerver, is currently in doubt.

Kevin Magnussen, a Formula 1 driver for Haas, needs a minor surgery, therefore his participation in the Daytona 24 Hours is uncertain.

The MDK Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 entry in the event, scheduled for the last weekend in January, was to be driven by Dane Magnussen along with his father Jan, Mark Kvamme, and Trenton Estep.

Magnussen needs a minor surgery to remove a cyst from his hand, and since he must afterwards recover for two weeks, his involvement is in question.

“I went to the doctor because I had a hurting wrist, and they found a cyst that needs to be removed now so I can be ready for the F1 season,” he revealed, with pre-season testing beginning in late February ahead of the first Grand Prix in Bahrain on March 5th.

“It’s a harmless procedure, but I probably need to rest for a couple of weeks afterwards. I need to wait and see what the doctor says, but it’s unlikely that I can race at Daytona.”

“It’s a difficult situation for us, but Kevin has the backing of the whole MDK Motorsports family”, team owner and teammate Kvamme said.

“His F1 schedule has highest priority, and the sooner he’s fit for [that], the better.

“The doctors will decide whether he will be able to race with us. If not, we’ll find another opportunity to go racing together.”

Magnussen has competed in two races at Daytona before, with a best result of sixth in 2021. He has also competed with his dad in the Le Mans 24 Hours and Gulf 12 Hours.

Kevin Magnussen has kept MoneyGram Haas F1 Team fully informed on his need for minor surgical treatment, a Haas representative said in response to the news, according to RacingNews365.com.

“The team is looking forward to Kevin being at full strength for his pre-season testing commitments starting next month.”
