Meet the last five American Formula One drivers before Logan Sargeant, whose careers feature three Indianapolis 500 victories.
With the introduction of the FW45 car by Williams, which Logan Sargeant will race in 2023, he is expected to be the newest Formula 1 racer to wear the Stars and Stripes.
Florida native Sargeant, who graduated from Formula 2, is the 58th American to compete in a Grand Prix. This number includes participants in the oddities known as the 1950–1960 Indianapolis 500s, which were the races that first put the “World” in “World Championship.”
Alexander Albon, who will be the first American racer to compete full-time since 2007, will be partnered with Sargeant.
Given how infrequent the participation has been, we looked back at the five American racers who have previously competed in Formula One over a period of exactly 40 years.
What well-known names are among Logan Sargeant’s most immediate American Formula One predecessors?
