Gojo Satoru Returns in Jujutsu Kaisen and Targets [SPOILER]

In Chapter 221 of Jujutsu Kaisen, the series’ strongest sorcerer, Gojo Satoru, has finally escaped the Prison Realm and is determined to restore order in the Jujutsu Society. Fans have eagerly awaited Gojo’s release ever since he was sealed away during the “Shibuya” arc. While Gojo spent a mere 19 days in the realm, it lasted a staggering 1,189 days outside of canon time, making his escape one of the most highly anticipated events in the series.

Chapter 221 marks the triumphant return of Gojo to the story. Waste no time, he immediately launches an attack on the main antagonists of Jujutsu Kaisen, skillfully maneuvering through traps and obstacles. It is evident that he is driven to avenge his friends and put the past behind him.

What brings even more satisfaction to fans is the wholesome manner in which Gojo was freed from the Prison Realm. His own students, including Itadori, Inumaki, Hakari, Yuta, Maki, and students from Kyoto, meticulously planned his escape since the day he was sealed. They gathered on a Jujutsu High training ground and successfully released Gojo from the Prison Realm’s back gate located in the Kiroko Mines, as advised by The Angel. The concept of time within the realm is distorted, making it impossible to know how long Gojo felt trapped. To ensure everyone’s safety, sandbag barricades were put up, and Hana Kurusu used Jacob’s Ladder to nullify the realm’s cursed energy and break the seal. Despite a dramatic explosion, Gojo’s whereabouts remained unknown.

Interestingly, Gojo’s release actually occurred through the front gate, situated 8,000 meters below the surface in the Japan Trench. This was one of the precautions set by Kenjaku, the antagonist, in case Gojo managed to escape. The realm was heavily guarded by cursed spirits and layers of seals intended to eliminate Gojo upon his release. However, Gojo emerged unscathed, showcasing his incredible prowess.

Without delay, Gojo sets his sights on Kenjaku, determined to confront the evil sorcerer. His primary objective is to find closure for his best friend, Geto Suguru, whose body is being used as a vessel. Although Gojo deeply cares for his students, the shocking sight of Geto’s body being manipulated was what led to his initial entrapment. Before the showdown with Kenjaku could commence, Sukuna, who now resides within Megumi Fushiguro, interrupts the confrontation. A brief fight ensues, but it is cut short by another interruption. The final battle between Gojo, Kenjaku, and Sukuna is scheduled for December 24th, the date of Geto’s original death.

Despite Sukuna’s regained strength, Gojo remains confident in his ability to prevail. He acknowledges the difficulty of facing Sukuna but maintains his unwavering belief that he will emerge victorious. Gojo sees Kenjaku as no real threat, as the ancient sorcerer had to resort to sealing him in the Prison Realm as the first step of his plan. Defeating Kenjaku is a certainty for Gojo, though it will undoubtedly be agonizing to have to kill his best friend once again. Additionally, within the next five weeks, Gojo must find a way to separate Sukuna from Fushiguro or be forced to eliminate the young sorcerer he has raised himself.

Gojo Satoru’s long-awaited release from the Prison Realm has thrilled Jujutsu Kaisen fans. He has returned with a vengeance, ready to dispense justice in his signature dramatic style. His presence brings a much-needed lightheartedness to the recent somber events in the manga, showcasing his playful and confident personality.
