The first Chicago Street Race’s intended 5 p.m. ET start time has been postponed by NASCAR due to persistently torrential rainfall and isolated flooding during the day on Sunday.
The race, which will take place on a 2.2-mile, 12-turn track that travels through the Grant Park neighborhood of downtown Chicago near the shores of Lake Michigan, will be the first street race in the 75-year history of the Cup Series.
On pit road, among other places, there was standing water that was occasionally several inches deep.

Pole-winner Denny Hamlin pleaded with NASCAR not to hold the race in the current situation on his Twitter account just before the race’s scheduled start time.
Following Shane van Gisbergen, Christopher Bell, Daniel Suarez, and Tyler Reddick at the start of the race, respectively.
Michael McDowell, Kyle Larson, Joey Logano, A.J. Allmendinger, and former Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button round out the top ten starting lineup.
Due to collisions they suffered in either Saturday’s practice or qualifying, Chase Elliott, Kevin Harvick, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. are all entering the race at the back of the pack.
