Mercedes and Red Bull have negotiated a deal for Ben Hodgkinson to join Red Bull Powertrains in 2022, following his departure from Formula One.
After Mercedes and Red Bull reached an agreement during the build-up to the 2022 Formula One season, Ben Hodgkinson will be free to join Red Bull Powertrains later this year.
Hodgkinson will transition from Head of Mechanical Engineering at Mercedes HPP to Technical Director at Red Bull’s equivalent department, a move that was announced in April of 2021.
Following conversations between the two teams, Hodgkinson will begin work at Red Bull Powertrains on May 24th, right after the Spanish Grand Prix.
Mercedes and Red Bull reach an agreement
“Mercedes F1 and Red Bull F1 today reached an agreement regarding the appointment of Ben Hodgkinson,” read a joint statement.
“Under the terms of that agreement, Ben, who joined Mercedes in August 2001, will be free to join Red Bull Powertrains from 24 May 2022.”
As F1 puts a three-year halt on development in this area, Red Bull will take over the management of Honda’s power units in 2022.
