Hamilton closes the gap on Verstappen in the Formula One driver standings

Lewis Hamilton closed the gap on Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship after another exciting F1 weekend. Both championship races ended with Red Bull cutting into Mercedes’ lead in the Constructors’ standings.

With two races remaining, Lewis Hamilton’s victory in Qatar has cut Max Verstappen’s lead in the Drivers’ Championship to eight points.

Hamilton dominated the race at the Losail International Circuit, leading every lap on his way to his 102nd Formula 1 victory.

Verstappen battled back from a five-place grid penalty to finish second, gaining three spaces by Turn 2 before passing Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso.

Mercedes’ lead over Red Bull in the Constructors’ standings has been cut to five points thanks to Sergio Perez’s fourth position and Valtteri Bottas’ retirement.

Ferrari once again outscored McLaren to move closer to third position in the Constructors’ Championship.

Alpine has a significant lead over AlphaTauri thanks to Fernando Alonso’s third finish and Esteban Ocon’s fifth place. Prior to Qatar, the two teams were tied on points, but Alpine now has a 25-point lead.
